Scripture: Luke 22:14–20

Some meals stay with us because of the love we experienced around the table. In Luke 22, Jesus gives His disciples a meal to remember—and directs their attention to the gift of Himself.

Jesus gathers with His apostles for Passover before His suffering. He gives thanks, shares bread, and speaks of His body being given for them. He connects the cup with the new covenant through His blood. He asks them to remember Him. This is a paraphrase; read the passage in full using the link below.

At the heart of this moment is Jesus’ self-giving love. Before His followers fully understand what is coming, He gives them a way to remember what He is doing for them. The table directs our attention toward His sacrifice and the grace we receive.

Christians understand and practice Communion in different ways. As we explore this passage together, we can approach those differences with humility and keep our attention on Jesus. Whether you have followed Him for years or are asking your first questions, there is room to listen, learn, and reflect.

Remembering Christ can shape the way we enter an ordinary week. Gratitude can interrupt entitlement. Grace can challenge the habit of keeping score. Remembering His love can help us become more attentive to the people around us.

Put your faith in motion

Read Luke 22:14–20 slowly this week. Write down one thing about Jesus that you want to remember. Then express gratitude to someone you have taken for granted, naming one specific way their presence has mattered.

A prayer for the week

Jesus, help us remember You with grateful hearts. Bring our attention back to Your love and sacrifice. Teach us to receive grace humbly and treat our neighbors with patience and care. Amen.

Bring it to Sunday’s table

How might remembering Jesus’ self-giving love change the way we treat one another this week?
